TRAIN TO END STROKE

January 1991, I had a STROKE that slowly claimed most of the strength in
both my arms and legs and other parts of my body. I lost a lot of my memory( which may not of been all that bad :)) and speech. The doctors gave me one more than 2 years to live.

Well I didn't die and have regained my arms and legs and speech back, I don't remember much of my life before the STROKE but have done a good job since.

Now I have taken up a very ambitious task. I recieved a card in the mail from the American Stroke Association asking me if I wanted to take part in their up coming Train To End Stroke, a full or half marathon. I could take my choice of walking or running and of course I can't run anymore since I had my stroke, so I will be walking. I will be training for the next 5 months so I will be able to walk 26.2 miles.

The other half of this task is, I have to raise $6,000 by March 20th., for the American Stroke Association in their efforts to get the word out about STROKE and continue with their
reseach and education.

STROKES are the 3rd leading cause of death and the number 1 cause of serious disability
in the United Stated.
Every 45 seconds, someone in America has a STROKE and Every 3 minutes someone will
die because of a STROKE.

The American Stroke Association through fund raising like this and others, wants to reduce
all these numbers through research and education on the warning signs of a STROKE.

Those warnings signs are,

Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg.
Sudden confusion, trouble speeking or understanding others.
Sudden trouble with you vision.
Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, or loss of balance.
Sudden severe headache without a known cause.

If you or anyone you know ever have any of these signs please CALL--911 right away, because
the sooner you get the hospital and get treatment for a STROKE the better chance you have for
a fuller recovery and normal life.

I will be taking part in this marathon not just with the memory that I had a STROKE that was
supposed to end my life but also for all the suvivors and those that didn't I have met or heard of.
Having the names of those that had a STROKE with me, will inspire me when it's tough to
continue the 26.2 miles.

I am in need of your support, so please make your most generous donations to the
American Stroke Association by check, payable to the American Stroke Association or
credit card, using Master Card, Visa, American Express or Discover or by cash. You can send them to me at 34888 Linden Lane Westland, Michigan 48185

You can also donate by going online at, http://teamdetroit.kintera.org/kona/jwork

100% of your donations go to the American Stroke Association to further it's research and
education and are tax deductable.

helping me and the American STROKE Association to achieve our goals.
